After reading the recent Vivienne Westwood part – written Auto – Biography – the first chapter begins with describing Vivienne frantically preparing for Paris Fashion Week. Adam Kelly (the co – writer of the book) describes her as ‘indefatigable’ and ‘looking fabulous’. He quotes:
Mainly what i’ve learned about Vivienne is this: she has maintained the child within herself, against all odds. Wide – eyed. Inquiring. Open. Stroppy. Mercurial. Dressing up sometimes. Rude, some of the time. Heart – soaringly loyal and loving at others. She behaves, mainly. Sometimes she goes off on one.
These are the words that resonate in my mind now when someone mentions Vivienne Westwood. This is what I think of when I saw the snaps from LFW and the Westwood Red Label catwalk. Flicking through the following pictures, I want you to think of these words and the cool composition Vivienne expels, still at the tender age of 73, a living icon and political activist in one of the hardest industries in the world.
The allusive Vivienne Westwood Red Label is available at Garment Quarter, Bristol/ Vivienne Westwood, Cardiff and online at: https://www.garmentquarter.com
